PhonepayPlus regulate premium rate services in the UK. These are designed to protect the public from unscrupulous traders. X-on has along history of PhonepayPlus compliance and has never been associated with a service that has fallen foul of the regulations.

In Australia the industry is governed by the Australian Communications Authority with The Communications Alliance being the peak body for the Australian communications industry. The ACA and Comms Alliance monitor the activities of premium rate providers, and are involved in an ongoing process to tighten regulations covering premium rate SMS and phone services.

Where a service involves a tariff above the usual rate whether phone or SMS it is considered premium rate. Services such as competitions, adult entertainment, helplines, interactive games, TV voting, content downloads and news alerts commonly use premium rate as a source of revenue.

State Regulations
